Six Ankai pure electric public transport buses started to run in Urumqi Bus Line 101 on September 28, 2009. The buses, zero emission and free from contamination with unit price of 2,450,000 RMB (~ 358,719 USD), drew attentions from passersby.
The journalist got on one bus after departure ceremony. Driver Master Mou sit on the driver’s seat, and his partner, Master Bi, stand by the door speak to each passenger with a smile, “Welcome to Line 101 electric bus!”
Ankai electric bus run in Urumqi
As introduced by Master Mou, passenger capacity of the 12-meter bus is slightly larger than current buses, and there are 33 seats including driving seat, seats for handicapped persons and secondary channel. The bus can run as long as 180 km after 4 hour charge.
It’s noted that one can hardly hear roar of engine when driving; and there are four vehicle emergency hammers in eye-catching places and air exhaust and sniff equipments in the front and back escape scuttles to air conditioning; and the ladders in the bus doors facilitate passengers up and down.
The six electric buses are paid by Xinjiang power company and government of Urumqi Municipal government, 10,000,000 RMB (~1,465,072 USD) and 5,000,000 RMB (~732,536 USD) separately. Ankai electric bus can run at daytime and get charged at night. This can not only balance urban power grid and increase service efficiency of electric generating set, but also the operation costs of public transport company can be reduced since trough electricity price is low.
