SAIC to Start Making New-energy Vehicle in 2010

SAIC has completed its new-energy industrial chain and expects to start production of its new-energy vehicles in 2010, Xinhua News reported today.

“Our related core technologies of auto parts have successfully broken the international hybrid vehicle barriers,” a spokesman of SAIC said.


Reportedly, SAIC will provide over 1,000 new-energy vehicles to World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, including pure electric cars, fuel battery cars, super-capacitor and hybrid vehicles.


At the same time, some new-energy vehicles with this battery are under testing. We don’t rule out the possibility of holding shares with overseas battery companies” the SAIC spokesman said.


Based on the current efforts, SAIC has shown full commitment to the furtherance of its new-energy development.


Roewe hybrid vehicles with 20% fuel cut will be close to production in 2010. Roewe 550 Plug-in, to release in 2012 will achieve a 50% oil-saving. And SAIC’s owned pure electric sedans will come into the market.
