On 29 January 1956, the first bus route from the train station to the Agricultural College was formally used with the first 22 conductors, which finished the history of the rickshaw in Hefei. The only 10 improved wooden and iron buses imported abroad were presented on the ceremony with heavy noise, pollutant, strong fuel smell and black smoke. Then it was urgent to improve the condition of out-of-order crowd and poor appearance.

On 28 December 2009, 30 Ankai HFF6120G03EV pure electric buses will be released formally and it will mean an important date for the promotion and popularity of the Chinese new energy vehicles. In the meantime, Hefei Public Transport Group will apply 30 pure electric buses to the operation of No. 18 bus route from Hefei municipal government district to the Binhu District in the early 2010. Therefore, this route will be the first pure electric bus one and the Hefei citizens will be the first to enjoy the service of new energy vehicles in China.

It is known that HFF6120G03EV pure electric bus takes 12 groups of lithium cells with the replacement of traditional engine with electric power system. The cell groups contain 300kw/h power. The 3-5 hours charging can afford to the driving over 160km with air-conditioner(AC) and 250-300km without AC.

In addition, there are some human-centered design such as the driver seat with ergonomics, the convenient low floor and the specialized equipments for the disabled in these 30 Ankai buses. Meanwhile, the electric power system greatly reduces noise and offers more comfort and convenience to the passengers.
It is known that the release and the forthcoming operation of these buses contributes to the endless effort of the government and the company. It indicates the development of the new energy vehicles is the future direction and also the consensus of the government and the corporation.
