Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC for short as below) says it plans to sell its wholly owned brands with double volume in this year. The sales target is 180,000 units. According to the short-term plan, SAIC will bring several new wholly owned brand models very soon. Besides that, it also actively develops new-energy vehicles that carry its own badges, such as plug-in pure electric vehicle, hybrid vehicle, etc. Some mature new energy autos will be put into mass production by 2012.
SAIC also reveals that it will launch purely electric-powered auto in 2012 with zero emission. So far, SAIC is negotiating with US-based A123 Systems Inc, one of the leading lithium-ion battery suppliers in the world, to jointly develop battery systems for new energy vehicles. According to SAIC"s long-term development plan, it is going to developed several new energy vehicles, including dimethyl ether coach, hybrid coach, electric coach, ultra capacitor coach, hybrid sedan, plug-in fuel battery sedan, etc.
The Shanghai World Expo is coming in this year. SAIC will supply nearly 1,000 alternative energy vehicles to serve it. All of these vehicles include ultra capacitor coaches, fuel battery, hybrid vehicles etc with total six new energy models. People will see a new SAIC image in near future with more green and more environmental protection.
