News from Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC for short as below) reports that it will sell its vehicles to the market of India. The plan has two phase. One is production, the other is sale. General Motors will assist SAIC to explore Indian market. SAIC and GM do not reveal to much information so far.
An insider says that the India venture company will make and sell minivans, mini-trucks and small cars. Currently, GM and SAIC have been in talks about introducing light commercial vehicles in India. According to the plan, the new autos will not be the high-end products. Most of them are low-cost vehicles. India has very huge market demand on low-cost autos. According to the short-term plan, GM and SAIC are targeting annual sales of 300,000 vehicles in India in five years.
