It is known that at the end of May 2010, 30 Hengtong electric-gas hybrid power buses will be launched into production and first used in No.818 bus route in Chongqing. In addition, the related principal of Hengtong Bus introduced that Hengtong has set up especial research and development organization and was developing electric buses which possibly came into market this year.

Gas-electric hybrid power bus was developed by Hengtong Bus in cooperation with famous engine, motor and battery producers and possessed completely independent intellectual property right. The gas-saving ratio reached over 25% in the road test in the required China typical city transport working condition. The model applies the advanced coaxial parallel hybrid power system structure and creative front clutch automatic control technology with steady performance as well as reliability. The mechanical structure is simple, compact and convenient to maintenance. The motor is located in front of transmission capable of generating big power through torque amplification function and reduces the power battery demand, the size of electric direct drive system and cost. The "direct connection" of motor and engine enables the system less complicated and realizes the independent drive mode of engine to strengthen the reliability of system. It is provided with lithium-ion power battery in small size and with light weight. The independent drive mode of engine can be used when hybrid power system goes wrong.
