Yutong Makes Breakthrough in Lightweight Technology

Yutong"s new energy buses have been long recognized by the market, but its technical advantage in other aspects shall not be ignored. The first domestic prototype city bus with full-alu body, which was jointly developed by Yutong and Alcoa, has been completed. The body weight is cut by approximately 46% and whole vehicle weight by 12%.

It is learned that the fuel efficiency can be increased by 6% -8% when the weight of a whole vehicle is reduced by 10%. Therefore, the lightweight technology is of great importance for energy efficiency and emission reduction. The price of the bus is about one million yuan, its fuel-efficient effect is approximately equal to that of a hybrid bus. The technical upgrade of aluminum alloy, price reduction of raw materials, price hike of petroleum and improvement of energy efficiency index would help to popularize the lightweight technology.
