The business operation of Ankai luxury electric buses has reached on year in Dalian, where there is the first special transport public route with electric buses in the world. In 2003, Ankai Bus developed electric buses with Beijing Institute of Technology. In 2004, Ankai 11-meter and 8-meter electric buses have been the first group ones listed in national products announcement.

In 2005, the technology of domestic battery makes great process. The company developed the electric buses with nickel-metal hydride battery in 2005, which enhances 30% of constant driving range and improves cell quality. In addition, it started to develop hybrid power and fuel cell buses, cooperating with the international corporations such as Siemens. In 2007, it developed the third generation of electric buses equipped with iron-phosphate-based lithium-ion batteries as well as super-capacitors. The model has been used in Shanghai as the official reception vehicle for Shanghai World Expo.
Ankai luxury bus
In 2009, Ankai Bus started to develop new electric buses to solve the problems of small driving range at this moment, which can afford to driving of 300km (without air-conditioner) and 250km (with air-conditioner) with full recharging. Ankai Bus focuses on 11-meter and 12-meter buses, extends to 9-10 meter buses and launches HFF6127K46EV for Davos Forum in Dalian in 2009. At present, the daily production volume for Ankai Bus is 8-9 units per production line in assembly workshop of luxury buses and the monthly production is up to 180 units, covering various adaptable models.
In 1996, Ankai SETRA luxury bus equipped with washroom, air-conditioner, television and karaoke was operated on Chengyu highway for the first time, attracting great attention and bringing the competition among highway, railway and air transport.
