Zhongtong Bus has decided to invest in what is called in the Chinese automotive terminology “new energy” and in energy-saving buses. The company’s plans have been accepted by the departments involved of the Shandong province government. When completed, the new unit will have a production capacity of 20,000 units, six new bus models will be launched for production at these premises. The project requires an investment of 1.138 billion Yuan. About 60% of the total production capacity will be realized by 2012, full production capacity should be available in 2013.

Zhongtong Bus will be strengthening its position with this investment; at the same time the export potential will be increased by improving the overseas marketing and after-sales network and establishing the brand on the North African and European markets. Zhongtong Bus will also be strengthening the financing of export orders. Recently, Zhongtong completed the delivery of 154 units to Morocco. In the first six months of this year she exported in total 360 units, which means an increase of 213% compared with last year. The income generated from these sales was 178 million Yuan.
In the first half of this year 2010, the production volume of the Chinese bus industry in total reached 92,462 units according to Zhongtong officials, which means a year-on-year growth of 50% in this industry. Zhongtong Bus, as one of the medium-sized parties, produced 3975 buses, which means a year-to-year growth of 49%, and sold 3901 ones. Zhongtong Bus started as a bus manufacturer some forty years ago, producing medium-size and large buses. Added to the program a couple of years ago were the so-called “new energy” buses, whioch were among others used during the Beijing Olympic Games and the 11th National Games.
According to Zhongtong officials Zhongtong Bus is the only China bus builder to be part of the “863” energy-saving and new energy program, Beijing’s crash program for stimulating the development of clean energy
During the recently held China (Wuxi) New Energy Conference, announcing the top 30 China new energy companies, Zhongtong Bus was the only bus manufacturer to be chosen.
