It is known that new King Long buses will launch the market in Malta in mass production which comply with the Euro V emission. As the partner of ARRIVA Group, King Long Bus will offer 200 new buses for project of privatization of public transport system in Malta.
It is revealed that the initial investment for this project is 35 million Euro, including importing 230 new buses with Euro V standard and modifying 86 existing buses for Euro V. The operation contract period is ten years. New buses will be equipped with air-conditioners, electronic stop display, and space for the wheelchair and apply the technology of environmental driving, tire pressure-monitoring and engine shutdown. In addition, ARRIVA Group will purchase 13 hybrid power buses for operation in Valleta.
The average age of the current city buses is 30 years, seriously polluted in Malta. The local traffic management department showed that the objective of the improvement of public transport system was to make the emission level of the buses in accordance with the demand of European Union on Malta. The new fleet will greatly reduce pollutant emission (hydrocarbon: 48%; carbon monoxide: 55% and nitric oxide: 70%).
