Changsha is Warren Buffett and Bill Gates last leg of their China tour. They attended off-line ceremony of K9, BYD electric bus, and they also witnessed signing ceremony of purchase letter of intent of 1000 K9 buses by Changsha city government.
Mr. Buffett stated that technology progress of BYD contributes convenience and happiness for all human beings and he would continue holding shares of BYD all his life possibly.
Based on their advantageous battery technology, BYD entered auto industry since 2003, and they put pioneer of new energy auto maker as their development goal. K9 is their first pure electric bus built on their self-developed li-ion battery, and solar-cell panel on the top can provide additional power on running.
As introduced by Wang Chuanfu, K9 can run as fast as 300km/h with one third fuel consumptions compared with traditional buses. Fuel consumption of a traditional bus is similar to the consumption of thirty passenger vehicles, and over 30,000 passenger vehicle emissions can be reduced by Changsha city government BYD K9 purchase plan.
Buffett said that there is a vast market needs for electric buses and coaches. Apart from city buses, BYD can also develop electric taxi and they can also enter the US markets. Because hybrid vehicles are under use in the US and it is very possible that pure electric vehicles will be employed in the future.
Apart BYD successful F3DM electric car model and E6 taxi model, release of BYD K6 pure electric bus marked that BYD is nearer to their green dream.
