On the June 19th local time, Germany parts supplier Bosch announced that it would cooperate with Yuasa and Mitsubishi for the new lithium ion batteries of high performance, which would be used in the plug-in hybrid and electric buses in the future.

It is learned that these three enterprises would take advantage of advanced battery unit management system, electrochemistry and the latest material achievement to improve substantially the capacity of electricity power storage. Thus, weight and volume of batteries would be reduced to enhance its range miles of electrified vehicles.

These three enterprises plans to establish a joint-venture company, which runs the project of developing lithium ion batteries and provides support of sales and marketing to parent enterprises. Bosch would hold 50% shares, and Yuasa and Mitsubishi would hold respective 25%, which would be shown in the management department and board of supervisors of this joint-venture company. However, it still waits for Anti-monopoly inspection institution’s approval. If passed, this company would set Stuttgart of Germany as its headquarter and would be in operation in the beginning of 2014.

It is Bosch’s second attempt to establish a joint-venture company of lithium ion batteries with Asian enterprises. After selling out its holdings of SB LiMotive in September 2012, which was a joint-venture company of lithium ion batteries with Samsung, Bosch terminated its 4-year cooperation of lithium ion battery technology.
