Yesterday Solaris Urbino 8,9 LE electric started operation in Klagenfurt. It is the first contract for highly innovative and emission-free vehicles completed by Polish manufacturer.
Solaris Urbino 8,9 LE is exceptionally quiet, technically innovative and distinguished by its modern design. Batteries are charged through plug-in system. Not only are the batteries a source of energy for drive system but also for air-conditioning, heating, power steering and electric door control. Also, for the first time CO2 air conditioning system with a built-in heat exchanger has been installed.
Stadtwerke Klagenfurt purchased the vehicle as a part of European Union project Cemobil. Solaris electric bus performance will be observed both by the operator and the manufacturer’s R&D department. On the basis of the results Stadtwerke Klagenfurt will make further decision on the extension of electric bus fleet.
Electric version of Solaris Urbino will operate on the route which runs from the city center, through the main railway station to university campus on the outskirts of the city.
Polish manufacturer’s fully electric buses are gaining popularity and recognition among customers in Europe. Another three 12-metre electric buses were sold to Germany. The first customer to buy Solaris electric bus with inductive charging was Braunschweiger Verkehrs-AG. Another two were sold to Rheinbahn AG, a customer form Düsseldorf.
