In 1990s, there were just old style Huanghe and Jiefang chassis buses, and the emissions are always focused, and some of the buses which cannot meet emission standards are called inkfish.

They have tried many ways to improve the condition without clear results. Beijing started to launch city bus priority policies during Beijing Olympic period, and many new buses were repalced since then.

In 2002, diesel buses with national 3 emission standard started to be used in Beijing, and the stanards improved to national 4 in 2006. And 11605 old city buses were replaced and 19528 units were renewed for Beijing Olympic Games. And 10016 of the total 20733 city buses are above national 3 emission standard.

There was no single accident during Beijing Olympic Games, and Beijing Public Transport Company standards for buses has become target for the whole country.

Beijing Public Transport Company has always focused on energy-saving and environmental protection technology and development, and they have cooperated with Foton AUV Bus and Tsinghua University to develop fuel cell battery and pure electric buses with Beijing University of technology and also develop ethanol fuel bus with Scania Bus.

They own 860 hybrid city buses till 2009. Currently hybrid city buses are running in 41 bus lines and total running distance reached 167 million km.

Beijing Public Transport Company purchased 50 Foton AUV LNG city buses in early 2012. And Foton AUV Bus develops many LNG city buses according to the needs of the bus operator.

Foton AUV 18m articulated city bus started to serve line 1 before the National Day in 2012. And Foton AUV LNG city buses won praise from the government. There are already 590 LNG city buses running for Beijing Public Transport Company, and this year they plan to purchase 3155 LNG city buses.
