Wang Binggang, leader of National 863 plan “Energy saving and new-energy vehicle” project consultation group, recently said at the 2013 China International New-energy Automobile Marketization Promotion Summit Forum, “For now, hybrid bus is of best performance in new-energy automobile industry. By 2015, medium hybrid bus would be market competitiveness without national financial subsidy.” This is a highly praise of medium hybrid bus promotion in the energy saving vehicle promotional project in cities.
Wang Binggang thought hybrid bus was close to its marketization instead of losing global development opportunities based on promotional condition in China.
Hybrid bus meets people’s satisfaction
At the forum, Wang Binggang stressed that hybrid bus is of the best performance within new-energy automobile industry. “By the end of 2012, domestic demonstrational vehicles were over 27,000 units in which hybrid bus was 12,156 units. In this year, MIIT and other 3 relevant ministries made a 5,000-units plan of hybrid bus promotion in non-demonstrational cities which has been already completed.” Therefore, the total number of hybrid bus in promotion for these four years has already come to more than 17,000.
Apart from the satisfactory number of promotional hybrid bus, Wang Binggang held the idea that the gradual improvement of hybrid bus technology was more exciting. “When tested, hybrid bus gives out its satisfactory general data.”
It is learned that in 2012 expertise group of National 863 Plan did various test of 13 kinds of 12m hybrid buses in Kunming. In fuel consumption test under urban condition, the minimum and maximum of fuel consumption per 100km are respectively 24.55L and 31.6L (without no air conditioner). If calculated by 36L/100km of traditional 12m transit bus, fuel conservation rate of hybrid bus can be 31.8%. Wang Binggang owed the excellent performance of hybrid bus to the hard work done by lots of people. “Like Yutong, Wuzhoulong and King Long, lots of enterprises develop hybrid bus well with large quantity of sales volume.”
Future competitiveness of medium hybrid bus technology is powerful
For now, medium hybrid bus is of three kinds of technical systems, like weak, medium and strong. Wang Binggang thought medium hybrid system was the most close to stability with 24L per 100km in perfect urban condition. Its competitiveness is powerful.
Thus, Wang calls for relevant bus manufacturers in China to continue developing this technology and reduce the cost. “If cost increases no more 150,000 to 200,000 Yuan than gas vehicle, medium hybrid bus can be market competitive without national financial subsidy in 2015. A large number of enterprises thought this goal would be realized within the following 3 years.”
However, due to higher advantage of strong hybrid technology with higher fuel conservation, Wang stressed that bus manufacturers need to continue developing. “The most difficult of hybrid bus is strong hybrid bus. This kind of technology needs another two years or longer to improve and into market.”
Wang said, “Industrialization of strong hybrid bus should be accelerated and fuel consumption of less than 20L per 100km should be realized further.” If this goal can be true, hybrid bus can be in the process of marketization. Thus, new-energy automobile industry can be in rapid development from introducing phase. He believes that domestic enterprises can achieve this goal.
