On Jun. 8, it was revealed by the official website of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information that China produced 19,000 units of new energy vehicles in May, up by a whopping 300% year on year. The number of electric passenger vehicles stood at 9,922 units, which was four times the number of the same period in the previous year. The number of plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles reached 4,923 units, which was nearly four times more than that in the same period last year. The number of electric commercial vehicles amounted to 2,832 units, up by a jaw-dropping 700% year on year. The number of plug-in hybrid commercial vehicles totaled 1,431 units, up by 36% year on year.
Electric passenger vehicles, plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles, electric commercial vehicles and plug-in hybrid commercial vehicles have all been listed as new energy vehicles which are exempt from vehicle purchasing tax. The total number of the four types of new energy vehicles stood at 17,800 units, accounting for 93% of the total new energy vehicle production volume in May.
