On the morning of July 3, 2015, 26 units richly decorated Golden Dragon electric buses arrived at Meizhou Island for operation. The bus fleet is the first batch of new energy buses in Putian city. Meizhou island, as a part of Putian city and a famous pilgrimage destination for Mazu believers, is also known as the “Mecca in the East”.
According to some statistics, Meizhou island received a total number of 2.292 million visitors in the first half of 2015. It is estimated that the total number of visitors to the island will reach five million for the whole year. Currently, the public transport has become increasingly the bottleneck for the further development of the island’s tourism industry. Against such a backdrop, the local government is determined to put more eco-friendly buses on its roads to provide more travel conveniences for both local citizens and tourists. It is believed that the arrival of the Golden Dragon bus fleet will also help the island to apply for National 5A Tourist Spot.
Measuring 8.2 meters in length, Golden Dragon electric bus bought by Meizhou island is capable of loading 60 passengers. Using accumulator battery-driven engine, the bus is able to drive 130 kilometers with a maximum speed of 70 km/h. At night, the bus can be recharged in the slow recharging mode and it only needs four hours to be fully recharged. In the daytime, it only takes less than twenty minutes recharging to meet various operation needs.
While Golden Dragon electric buses are put into operation in Meizhou island, another batch of 10 units Golden Dragon buses also start working on bus route No. 21 in Putian. According to the bus maker, after the trial operation, more Golden Dragon electric buses are expected to arrive in the city to meet the local citizens’ rising demand for more eco-friendly travel solutions.
