According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China rolled out 5,365 electric buses in August, which are 31.1 times more than the same period last year. However, compared with the figure in the previous month, the production volume in August dropped by 15.8%. The sharp contrast between July and August can be chiefly attributed to the imbalance of production plans in the past two months. Some enterprises took a few days off due to the the scorching hot weather. It is expected that the electric bus industry will maintain a fast growing momentum in the latter half of this year.
Yutong, the leading bus maker in China, has been staying at the top position since February this year. Last month, it produced 1,311 electric buses, 145 times more than that in the same period last year. Higer and Zhongtong ranked the second and the third position with their production volume reaching 837 units and 823 units respectively. With a production volume of 463 electric buses, which is 19 times more than that of the same month last year, Nanjing Kinglong grabbed the fourth position. Dongfeng, after continuous robust growth in the past few month, saw its production dive to just 56 units in August. Both King Long and Golden Dragon delivered good performances in August with their production volume of electric buses reaching 344 units and 318 units respectively.
From January to August this year, the electric bus industry witnessed rapid expansion. In total, the industry rolled out 24,867 electric buses, up by 858% year on year. Yutong ranked the first position, boasting a total production volume of 7,026 units, a year-on-year growing speed of 14200% and a market share of 28.3%. Zhongtong came as the second winner with a total production volume of 3,064 units and a market share of 12.3%. Higer, with its total production volume reaching 2130 and its market share 8.6%, ranked the third position. Nanjing King Long earned the fourth place with its total production volume reaching 1,896 units, its year-on-year growth rate 281% and its market share 7.6%. With their total production volume reaching 1,594 units and 1,475 units respectively and their market share reaching 6.4% and 5.9%, Dongfeng and Golden Dragon came the fifth and the sixth. King Long and Zhuhai Guangtong, with their production volume reaching 817 units, both ranked the seventh position. Ankai produced 562 units electric buses, up by 216% year on year and it ranked the ninth position with a 2.3% market share. BAIC Foton AUV earned the tenth position with a total production volume of 460 units, which is up by 334% year on year, taking a market share of 1.8%.
