Eyeing on the high-end overseas markets, Jiangxi-based Bonluck Bus Co., Ltd. (also known as BLK) has succeeded in exporting its bus & coach products to nearly 30 countries and regions across the globe. Through establishing a set of stringent technological standards and unrelenting efforts in exploring the upper-end overseas markets, BLK has become an increasingly recognized bus brand from China.

So far, 2,000 units BLK buses and coaches have successfully made their way to Australian market, ranking among the top three bus brand in the nation. In the U.S., 200 BLK buses have become the carriers for NASA. Currently, it is the only bus maker in China which has succeeded in exporting its bus products to such developed countries as Australia and the U.S. In the face of cutthroat competition from a number of internationally famed bus brands, including Volvo and Benz, BLK has already gained a solid ground for itself and is now ready to make another round expansion in the overseas markets.

According to Li Han, Deputy General Manager of BLK, “We only exported our products to three countries and regions at the beginning. Now, our overseas markets have risen to 28, including Australia, North America, Central & South America, Southeast Asia, Middle East, North Africa, etc. What makes us even more proud of is the fact that our bus & coach products have reached to the largest number of developed countries compared with all other domestic bus brands.”

What is the secret of BLK’s success in the overseas market? The answer lies in its formidable technological strength. With a less-than-a-decade history, BLK mainly focuses on exporting its bus & coach products abroad. Boasting an annual production volume of 5,000 units large buses and coaches, the bus maker has already won a number of highly-sought-after certificates, like DOT certificate from the U.S., ADR certificate from Australia, ECE certificate from EU.

“In 2006 when our company was set up, the domestic bus market has already been occupied by a handful well-known bus brands. Given this, we shifted our focus to the foreign high-end markets. Though many overseas customers had the impression that products made in China equal low-quality products, we believed the production and sale of low-end bus products in the foreign market would be a dead-end for us and we felt a strong urge to change the situation,” says Li Han.

How to succeed in making its way to the upper-end foreign market? BLK has already attached paramount significance to cooperation and exchange with its overseas counterparts. Located in the provincial capital of Jiangxi Province, BLK boasts a outstandingly strong R&D team which is composed of a number of bus experts and technicians from both home and abroad.

“When we first won a big order of 50 buses from an Australian customer, we hired ten local technicians to make sure the quality and standards of our vehicles can fully live up to customer’s expectations. Thanks to our good preparedness, our customer in Australia later expressed their satisfaction with the safety, maneuverability and comfort level of our products,” Ye Zhongfei, General Manager of BLK Australia told our reporter.

Apart from its buses and coaches, BLK engineers and technicians have also been dispatched abroad. Currently, it has six permanent overseas technical service teams. Moreover, 50 technicians are organized to conduct technological exchanges with their foreign counterparts in Australia, U.S., and Europe. In the meantime, a number of technicians are based in Southeast Asia and Central and South America to assist the production of local BLK bus companies.

Currently, BLK boasts twelve series products and over 100 bus & coach versions. Meanwhile, it has 38 patented technologies, including U-shape beam, bus roof with embedded solar power batteries, and automatic horizontal hydraulic balance system. Besides, it has been taking the lead in a number of areas, such as bus design, structural engineering, and finite element analysis.

Along with Chinese government’s One Belt, One Road development strategy, BLK is now more confident in its overseas expansion. In 2014, a newly developed customer in Bangkok placed an order of 500 BLK buses.

While maintaining its competitiveness in the traditionally powered bus products in the overseas market, BLK has spared no efforts in its research and development of new energy and clean energy bus products. In 2008, BLK rolled a limited number of new energy buses upon the request of Australian government. So far, the environmentally friendly vehicle has gradually gained recognition among foreign customers. In the next five to ten year, BLK is planning to complete a new round of reform for its production and marketing. By establishing a state-level Bus Technology Research Institute, it is hoping to carry out more technological exchanges with its foreign counterparts and export more and more high-quality new energy buses & coaches to the overseas markets.
