Currently new energy bus has become Ankai"s core business. As early as 2003, Ankai started to focus on developing electric and plug-in hybrid buses. From the world"s first electric bus route, to the industry"s first new energy intelligence management system Ankai "e-control", to China"s only "National Electric Bus System Integration Engineering Technology Research Center", Ankai now boasts a wide spectrum of new energy buses, including electric buses from 6-12 meters in length for urban public transportation, group travel transportation, plug-in hybrid city buses from 10-12 meters in length. Its fifth generation new energy bus equipped with Ankai e-control, is able to drive for over 350 kilometers continuously and it can cut the overall energy consumption by 10%, making it the best-performing electric bus in China so far.

In February 2016, China"s only "National Electric Bus System Integration Engineering Technology Research Center" passed the evaluation of a panel of experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology. Ankai is now also building five laboratories, including new energy vehicle driveline system, power battery, electric control system, vehicle research and development and performance, and spare parts performance. In addition, the plug-in hybrid large bus key technology introduction and innovation, which is led by Ankai, has already come to its successful completion. In 2015, Ankai"s new energy bus production base with an annual production volume of 6,000 units was also officially put into operation.
