ON June 3, a grand ceremony was held in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia to mark the successful delivery of 100 units Higer buses. Inonge Wina, Vice President of Zambia, together with a number of other cabinet officials, as well as bus drivers and representatives of Higer Zambia Office attended the delivery ceremony.
According to Overseas Chinese Weekly, the batch of Higer buses were purchased by Zambia Public & Private Drivers Association to support young drivers in the nation to start their own business. Zambia Youth, Sports and Children Development Bureau also provided financial assistance for the purchases.
The arrival of Higer buses in Zambia is expected to create much better working conditions for local bus drivers. Inonge Wina at the ceremony also called for more efforts to be made to support younger generations who are starting their own business. She believes that Higer buses will benefit local youth enormously. Since 2010, Zambia Public & Private Drivers Association has been in close contact with Higer, thus having developed deep trust in Higer vehicles.
A female Zambian driver, who has been in the driving business for over seven years, has been in a training session provided by Higer with other young bus drivers. “We are so happy that we could participate in the program. I just can’t wait to drive Higer buses and also hopes that the vehicle will bring me more income."
Wu Ming, General Manager of Higer Zambia reveals that the company entered the African nation in 2008. Currently, over 500 Higer buses are working smoothly in the country. In Southern African Development Community (SADC), the number of Higer buses has reached 1,000 units. These buses have been playing an essential role for the public transportation in the region.
