BYD and Alexander Dennis are to launch a 10.8m full-electric single-deck bus at the CENEX Low Carbon Vehicle event at Millbrook on 14-15 September. The new shorter single-deck compliments the existing partnership between the two on the 12m versions currently being built for Go Ahead London and expected to be delivered around the same time.
BYD says the new vehicle is designed specifically for the UK market to meet the requirements of provincial and London operators. It will be able to carry up to 79 passengers, including 27 seated. The kerb weight is estimated at 12.6tonnes, and the range under typical operating conditions (assessed to UITP SORT 2 test conditions with driver’s air-conditioning in use) is 179 miles with a recharge time of 3.5 hours.
The first 10.8m model will be fully built by BYD, but further vehicles will be produced by ADL at its Falkirk plant. The model is likely to be designated the ADL Enviro200EV 10.8m and will be available in the first half 2017.
“This is a significant extension of our pure electric bus family which will have strong appeal to those many UK operators for whom a 12m bus is just too long”, says Isbrand Ho, BYD managing director, Europe. “As with our first significant ADL Enviro200EV order in the UK, we look forward to continuing to work with our colleagues at ADL to create an optimum product tailored to British requirements”.
Colin Robertson, ADL chief executive, adds: “We are pleased to be furthering our partnership with BYD to develop this new product variant which brings together the best of the best.”
