On November 13, 2016 Hydrogen Energy Development & Application Summit was held in Beijing. Foton AUV 12-meter hydrogen fuel cell (FC) bus was put on display during the summit, showcasing the latest achievements by China’s hydrogen energy industry and pointing the direction for future international cooperation in this field.

Instead of using storage batteries, Foton FC bus is equipped with a state-of-art electric power generating device free from combustion and mechanical wear. Only electricity, heat and water are generated while the device is in operation. With a refill of hydrogen for only ten minutes, the vehicle is able to drive 500 kilometers continuously. In addition, its ingenious dry film technology help the vehicle start up in extreme cold weather conditions. Also worth mentioning is its Zhike Intelligent Management System, which enables the bus operator to better monitor the operation of the vehicle in real-time and provide much safer transportation services for all passengers.

After taking a closer look at Foton AUV’s hydrogen FC bus, one expert from abroad can’t help expressing his admiration for the vehicle’s superiority, saying the vehicle has taken the world’s manufacturing technology of hydrogen FC vehicles to a new historical height.

As early as 2006, Foton started developing hydrogen FC buses together with Tsinghua University and SinoHytec. In 2013, Foton and SinoHytec jointly launched the research & development of hydrogen FC logistic vehicles. In 2014, Foton’s second generation 12-meter hydrogen FC buses went on the market, successfully overcoming the bottlenecks of high production costs and short battery life expectancy. Currently, Foton boasts AUV and Aumark hydrogen FC vehicle production bases, which are committed to research, development and production of FC vehicles and as well as hydrogen fuel supplies.

In May 2016, more encouraging news came when Foton AUV secured a major order for 100 units 8.5-meter hydrogen FC buses, breaking several records in the emerging industry.

According to the central government’s plan, China will build 100 hydrogen refill stations and put 10,000 units FC vehicles on the road by 2020. By then, with an annual hydrogen production capacity of 72 billion cubic meters, China’s hydrogen FC vehicle industry will reach an annual business revenue of 300 billion RMB.

By 2030, hydrogen energy industry is expected to become one of the pillars of China’s economy with an annual business revenue of one trillion RMB. Also by then, the number of hydrogen refill stations in China will reach 1,000 and the number of FC vehicles will register at two million units. The high-pressure hydrogen pipeline will reach 3,000 kilometers.
