New Energy Commercial Vehicles Sold 4,699 Units in Q1, Down by 75.6%

On April 11, China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released a report, showing that China’s production and sales volume of new energy vehicles reached 3,3015 and 31,120 units in the first quarter of this year, up by 30.9% and 35.6% year on year. Compared with the statistics of the previous quarter, they both jumped by a whopping 83.7% and 76.9%.
In March, China’s production and sales volume of new energy commercial vehicles stood at 3,293 and 2,630 units,registering a marked downward movement with their growth rate at -57.4% and -63.6% year on year. In the meantime, the production and sales volume of electric commercial vehicles totaled 2,294 and 1,669 units respectively, both seeing a significant drop with their growth rate at -68.9% and -76%. The encouraging news is that the production and sales volume of plug-in hybrid commercial vehicles soared by 185.4% and 268.2% year on year, reaching 999 and 961 units respectively.
Also in March, China rolled out 29,722 units new energy passenger vehicles and sold 28,490 units, up by 69.8% and 81% year on year. In the same month, 24,391 units electric passenger vehicles were produced and 23,673 units were sold, up by 113% and 120.7% year on year. In addition, 5,331 units plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles were produced and 4,817 units were sold, down by 11.9% and 3.9% year on year.
In the first quarter of this year, the production and sales volume of new energy vehicles in China reached 58,317 and 55,929 units respectively, down by 7.7% and 4.7% year on year respectively. Also in the first three months, the production and sales volume of new energy passenger vehicles reached 51,691 and 51,230 units respectively, up by 22.9% and 30.1% year on year. In sharp contrast, the production and sales volume of new energy commercial vehicles only stood at 6,629 and 4,699 units respectively, down by 68.6% and 75.6% year on year.
