Another 350 buses bought from China with a government-to-government contract have arrived in Yangon on June 7 and the remaining 300 buses will arrive within days, said Dr Maung Aung, secretary of the Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA).

“The remaining buses will arrive on June 9 and the first 350 buses are now running. We instructed 95 buses to stop running in the Yangon Bus Service [YBS] before June 20. Another setback is right-handed buses with left-sided pavement doors and some of them do not meet our regulations. We will replace them. We are replacing the 95 retired buses first,” said Maung Aung.

The Yangon Region's planning and finance minister, Myint Thaung, posted on Facebook that 350 new buses from China docked at Thilawa port on June 2.

The regional government formed a vehicle buying committee to buy up to 1,000 new buses to replace old vehicles. They signed a contract to buy 1,000 buses from China: 500 from the Anhui Ankai Automobile Co, Ltd and 500 from the Yutong Bus company, under arrangement by the Chinese ambassador to Myanmar.
